Reflection

            Personally I don’t think it’s safe for Sophie to be running in and out the woods visiting a man who likes to dress up as people from different time periods. I also don’t think it’s safe for Sophie to be playing with Hermes until she because he could have fleas or rabies. I can kind of see what Alberto was getting at when he was talking about the renaissance changing philosophy and religion. Also I believe that he was saying about man seeing value in himself. Prior to the renaissance the people who got all the attention were Philosopher’s (probably more negative attention) Kings, and Religious figures such as saints. After the renaissance we began to see people gaining fame for abilities such as Music, Art, and Writing. I thought Henry Poole Was Here was a great movie for a philosophy class. I like how it portrayed religion vs. Atheism. I think that the movie was also a good example of how people can come in your life unexpectedly and change you for the good.

Connections

            In my everyday life I am seeing more and more philosophy. Ever since watching The Matrix I have been dissecting every movie to find philosophy. In The Lion King Timon and Pumba’s philosophy Hakuna Matata resembles Epicurus’s ideas. I got in a car crash this weekend and I made me realize a couple of things. The first thing it taught me was the Teenagers are stupid, and clack good judgment. The second thing it taught me was that life is short and we should try to get as much pleasure out of it without being greedy, So at dinner Saturday night I decided to have three pieces of pizza instead of my usually 2. The old Eric would have eaten two slices because he was thinking about his potential beach body, but the new Eric said I could die any day and I might never have the opportunity  to enjoy , cheese, pepperoni, Pizza sauce, and cread all combined into perfect little crust squares. 

Reflection 

      Sophie and I have a few things in common. Sophie and I are both only children. We also both have private places where we like to think. Sophie as a special place in her garden where she goes, I think best when I am surrounded by the warm waters of my shower. Sophie’s world also shares many similarities to stories like star wars because Alberto is guiding Sophie kind of like how Obi Wan Kenobi and Yoda guided Luke and Anakin. While I was reading the chapter Natural philosophers  I was thinking that many of the concepts that the philosophers came up with  was kind of like science in a way. Also some of the early philosopher’s ideas and theories have a strong effect on things in the modern world such as the TV show Avatar the last air bender, and chemistry concepts such as atoms. Also I noticed that some of the theories had strong religious influences in them.  

Connections 

I see philosophy many places in my life. One place that I see it is in my Honors Philosophy class. I also see philosophy in many amine and manga that I used to read in my younger days. I think philosophy has a strong effect on people’s morals which in turn has a strong effect on things such as politics, science, and Religion. I am a pretty religious person, and after studying philosophy for a little bit, and watching The Matrix I am beginning to have questions. But I am still religious. Some people use philosophy to disprove religion, but I use philosophy to reinforce religion. I see philosophy in movies such as Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Batman or Bruce Wayne lost his parents at a early age and later focuses on fighting crime in Gotham. He uses philosophy is to not kill no matter how bad a person may be.
